BART reported systemwide delays Tuesday afternoon as high winds blew through the Bay Area, spreading debris across train tracks in San Francisco.
Service in San Francisco has since been restored, BART said.A Richmond-bound train struck a tree outside the Glen Park station.
Trains were stopped between the 24th Street station in the Mission and the Daly City station. Initially, BART reported a 10 to 15 minute delay systemwide in all directions, but later issued an alert for "major" systemwide delays.
As of 4:45 p.m., service between Daly City station and 24th street Mission station was restored, BART said. Earlier today, trees on the track blocked train travel between the Balboa Park and Glen Park stations.
"There is no service as crews work to clear the downed trees," said BART spokesman Jim Allison in a statement, adding that "one train struck some of the debris as is traveled to Glen Park station."
No injuries were reported.
At least one BART passenger tweeted their frustration with the delays.
"So I'm on BART and a tree fell over on the track, and I'm stuck in West Oakland," said Twitter user Kalaeja Emaun. "I can't get to work, I'm already hella late."
The National Weather Service issued a high-wind advisory for the Bay Area from noon Tuesday to noon Wednesday, saying strong northerly winds are projected to sweep across the region. Wind speed is expected to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph.
Meanwhile, Muni also was delayed due to the weather.
A downed tree near the 24-Divisadero bus line on Divisadero and McAllister streets was forcing the 24 to reroute in both directions.
The 5-Fulton bus line might be affected as well, the transit agency tweeted. Further information was not available.
